Damashi, or in its more traditional spelling Damashii or Tamashii signifies the inherent soul or spirit that inhabits every living person. In Budo culture Damashii is often linked to the word Yamato, the old term for Japan as it refers to the historical values of the Samurai of Integrity, Honor, Courage, Loyalty, Honesty and Compassion.
We have therefore imagined a powerful warrior, wearing a simple garment that only partially covers his athletic body; the katana already swung, pointing down to the ground, the grip is firm, but we don’t know yet if this warrior will have the strength to raise it once more.
The doubts are there, but the majestic phoenix rising behind his shoulder is an omen, a manifestation of the samurai’s unrelenting spirit to rise and fight - we now know the samurai spirit will always prevail!

When creating a classic looking Gi but that meets today’s competition standards we sourced the best Pearl Weave Comp fabric on the market. The 350gsm Pearl Weave top is matched with 10oz RipStop pants. Soft to the touch, but very durable even after many washes this fabric combination is one of the most sought after by the specialists in our BJJ community.
Timeless and tireless effort has been spent to assure the perfect everyday fit, comfort enough to not impede any range of motion, snug enough to avoid those pesky opponent’s grips.
The internal GI jacket is sublimated with our unique Half Sumo Irezumi style artwork, a beautiful hand drawn Samurai and Phoenix has been reproduced inside the jacket via silkscreen. The print will fade with time, giving the kimono a timeless vintage look to it.
Various high definition patches, embroideries and prints decorate the outer part of the jacket and pants. Discover also a unique Kobayashi Issa poem printed on the inside of the jacket.
We have also included an unique high quality Gi bag, fully sublimated with Half Sumo's unique detailed hand drawings. This bag is fully machine washable so you can just throw it in the wash along with the GI, and have a fresh clean bag after every roll! The unique shape of the bag makes it a great day backpack either you chose to use it to carry your GI or any other item/gear.
The GI fits like a modern tapered GI - It is pre-shrunk, but please allow for an additional 5% natural fabric shrinkage after the first few washes.
